As part of our commitment to our community, the Compassionate Hearts United Foundation, Inc., has launched the "Give a Heart" Project.
Mental disorders are among the most common causes of disability in the United States. The resulting disease burden of mental illness is among the highest of all diseases. In 2022, an estimated 19.86% of adults ages 18+ and older are experiencing a mental health illness... this percentage amounts to nearly 50 million Americans dealing with the challenges of suffering from a mental illness. 4.91% of these adults are experiencing a severe mental illness. Research has shown that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for the deaths of approximately 46,000 Americans in 2020. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 34 and under, and 46% of people who died by suicide had a mental health condition diagnosis.
Research has also shown that, for every woman who dies by suicide, four men die by suicide. However, women are 3x more likely to attempt suicide. Furthermore, a severe mental illness costs the country more than #190 billion in lost earnings yearly.
More than ever, we need to fight the mental health crisis that is currently covering our nation, and together, we can do it.
At CHUF, we are committed to bringing awareness to this important cause, and that's why we offer many free resources to help those in need find the help they need and help our community members become agents of positive social change.
We unite forces against the mental health stigma. By doing this, we will be able to create a community where we can all be there for each other.
The truth is that, at the end of the day, we are all in this together, and it's our responsibility to care for each other... and today is a great day TO GIVE A HEART ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH.
