Give a HEART Project
As part of our commitment to our community, the Compassionate Hearts United Foundation, Inc., has launched the "Give a Heart Project."
Mental disorders are among the most common causes of disability in the United States. The resulting disease burden of mental illness is among the highest of all diseases. In 2022, an estimated 19.86% of adults ages 18+ and older are experiencing a mental health illness... this percentage amounts to nearly 50 million Americans dealing with the challenges of suffering from a mental illness. 4.91% of these adults are experiencing a severe mental illness. (Source: Mental Health of America)
Research has shown that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for the deaths of approximately 46,000 Americans in 2020. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 34 and under, and 46% of people who died by suicide had a mental health condition diagnosis.
Research has also shown that, for every woman who dies by suicide, four men die by suicide. However, women are 3x more likely to attempt suicide. Furthermore, a severe mental illness costs the country more than #190 billion in lost earnings yearly.
More than ever, we need to fight the mental health crisis that is currently covering our nation, and together, we can do it.
At CHUF, we are committed to bringing awareness to this important cause, and that's why we offer many free resources to help those in need find the help they need and help our community members become agents of positive social change.
We unite forces against the mental health stigma. By doing this, we will be able to create a community where we can all be there for each other.
The truth is that, at the end of the day, we are all in this together, and it's our responsibility to care for each other... and today is a great day TO GIVE A HEART ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH.

Under the "Give a HEART Project," We Have the Following Initiatives:
Give a Heart Community Outreach Initiative
As part of our commitment to our community, and as a way of bringing awareness to the mental health crisis that is currently covering our country, during the month of May, CHUF will be distributing our "Give a Heart about Mental Health" candy bags around the community. Each bag contains chocolate kisses, a lollipop, a heart-shaped stress ball, literature about our "Give Heart" program, as well as a crisis text line card with information on how to contact the crisis line if needed.
We believe that, by bringing awareness to the mental health crisis, together, we can help end the mental illness stigma. As we always say, "Together We are Stronger."
If you are interested in helping us spread the word about the importance of mental health awareness in our community and would like to place some candy bags in your place of business, contact us at support@chufinc.org and we will schedule the delivery for you. Bags are free for consumers and for businesses.
Veteran United Initiative
As a way of giving back to those who have honorably served our country, we have created the "Veterans United initiative." Through this program, we strive to provide support to our Veterans community by partnering with the Camaraderie Foundation via their CAM Colonel's Club.
The “CAM Colonels Club,” was named in honor of Camaraderie Foundation's most ardent supporters, COL Lee R. Barnes, Jr. (USA, ret.) He was committed to the long-term success of the Camaraderie Foundation and worked tirelessly to create an organization that would serve our military and their families for generations.
Through this partnership, we are committed to helping Veterans receive the mental health services that they need to allow them the opportunity to heal and to have a better quality of life after leaving the service.
